Atlantic Beach, NY – March 4, 2016 – Oakdale-based SUNation Solar Systems’ not-for-profit division SUNation Cares gave back to a family in need. The solar company donated a complete solar system and the gift of electricity for decades to come to the Miller family, of Atlantic Beach. The mother, Missy, and the father, Brandon, have a teenaged son, Oliver, who was born with a devastating brain injury.
This charitable idea to help the Miller family inspired SUNation CEO Scott Maskin to establish SUNation Cares. He describes Oliver’s mother, Missy, as a remarkable person who has selflessly dedicated her life to her son. She was also instrumental in gaining approval of medical marijuana for the chronically ill in New York State.
Through SUNation Cares, the Millers were gifted labor, design and engineering services. Richard Bivone and Philip Goehrig, of East Meadow-based Electrical Inspectors Inc., also contributed their services. The solar panels were donated by supporters and customers of SUNation Solar Systems, April Gornik and Eric Fischl, of East Hampton. Those in attendance on the final day of installation, on Friday, March 4, 2016, included the Miller family, Mr. Maskin, Atlantic Beach Mayor George Pappas, PSEG Long Island Manager of Renewable Energy Jennifer Rommel, a SUNation solar panel installation team, and Electrical Inspectors Inc.
“When you are required to live life with the challenges that my family has been faced with, you learn very quickly that life is better with a sunshiny attitude; bright smiles and positive, hopeful thoughts are how we live,” said Mrs. Miller. “How very appropriate that SUNation should come into our lives and do something so generous to make such a difference in our world! For any of the difficult aspects of our life, the extraordinary people we’ve been blessed to cross paths with have made a beautiful balance.”

We’re extremely grateful to our partners at PSEG Long Island, the Town of Hempstead and Electrical Inspectors, Inc. for helping bring this great dream of ours to life.”

SUNation Cares will continue this generous effort on Saturday, March 5, 2016, by participating in a family fundraiser for Oliver called Oliverpalooza at Minnesota’s Grill and Bar located at 959 W. Beech Street in Long Beach from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The money raised will go towards sending Oliver abroad for stem cell treatment. Over the last few years, the treatment has significantly improved his mobility, vision, and overall quality of life.
